Iranian Ex-President Mohammad Hatemi expressed his interest in launching a presidential campaign after a meeting of the Reform Camp's Consultation Committee, the Fars News Agency reported.
Hatemi said he decided to participate in the upcoming elections at the meeting attended by member of the Reformist Party's Central Council Musharikat Mustafa Tajzade, member of the Central Council of the Militant Religious Figures Society Abdulvadhi Musevi Lari and former Advisor to the Parliamentary Speaker Mahammad Ali Abdahi.
"It is necessary to instruct members of the Second Khordad Front to begin the campaign," Hatemi said.
The participants officially decided to announce Hatemi's participation in the presidential elections at a meeting with local and foreign journalists in the near future.
Based on data of the Iranian Supervisory Committee, the next presidential elections are scheduled for June 12. The presidential elections will be the tenth since the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
"Either Musavi or I will take part in the elections," Hatemi said at meeting with Ilam residents on Jan. 12.
Hatemi's brother Mahammad Reza Hatemi is the leader of the Second Khordad Front, which supports the ex-president's candidacy.
