UN Population Fund Director Matthew Kahane discussed cooperation opportunities and the population census to be held in Turkmenistan in 2012.
The talks in Ashgabat focused on reproductive health, mother and child protection, demography, gender issues and assisting with the implementation of population policy.
Kahane is expected to hold meetings in the parliament, State Statistics Committee, Foreign Ministry and Health Care Ministry.
UN member states are expected to conduct population and housing census from 2005 to 2014.
Turkmenistan conducted the last census in 1995.
The 2012 census aims to obtain comprehensive information about the demographic composition, living standards and conditions of the population. These factors are needed to implement state and public development strategy.
The State Statistics Committee will design the project.
