Azerbaijan Parliament has approved the additions and amendments to the Electoral Code at its meeting today.
The additions and amendments to the Electoral Code are aimed imed at the coordination of the provisions of the Electoral Code with the Republic's Constitution, Legal Policy and State Building Committee Chairman Ali Huseynov said.
Recent additions and amendments to the Azerbaijani Electoral Code were made in June 2010. In particular, it envisaged cancellation of the practice for allocating funds from public budget to candidates, changing the period of announcement of date of elections from 75 to 60 days before polling day. It has been amended ten times, since 2003, when the Code was adopted.
According to the recent amendments made to the Constitution by referendum under the Article 84.1 and 101.5 of the Azerbaijani Constitution, term of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic is extended if military operations in the condition of war make the election of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic impossible. Also if elections to the parliament of Azerbaijan Republic cannot be held because of military operations, the term of the parliament's authority is prolonged till the end of the military operations.
