Eldar Davitiani, the husband of Georgian citizen Babutsa Gordadze, who was detained for smuggling drugs in Malaysia, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was accused of illegal drug smuggling, Gordadze's relatives told Trend.

Gordadze was detained in Malaysia on charges of drug trafficking in October. If she is found guilty, she will face the death penalty. Gordadze's former husband Eldar Davitiani pleaded guilty.

Gordadze's trial will be held in Malaysia in late February. The Georgian side hopes that the Malaysian court will take into account the Tbilisi court's decision and will acquit her and fellow Georgian Darejan Kohtashvili .
