Azerbaijan, Khachmaz / Trend corr. А.Gafarov / The archeological digs held in the mass burial grave in the Gobustan region of Azerbaijan were suspended.

The archeological digs in the region were suspended due to unstable weather and intensive rains, stated the head of the expedition group of the Ethnography and Archeology Institute at the Azerbaijani National Science Academy Gahraman Agayev.

The mass burial gravewas found in Guba at the beginning of April during construction of the stadium. Immediately after revealing the territory an expositional group was established. The group disclosed that the grave occurred as a result of genocide committed by Armenians in Guba in 1918. Up to now the bodies of 160 people were revealed.

The next archeological digs will be held in spring 2008, Aliyev said.
