The progress has been observed in developing gymnastics in Azerbaijan for the last four years, Altay Hasanov, vice-president of the Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation, said at a report-election conference of the federation.
He said that the foundation of the Gymnastics Palace was laid during the reporting period with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. "We hope that this building will be constructed soon. Of course, after commissioning the palace, one will expect more success from our gymnasts. We hope to justify these expectations," Altay Hasanov said.
He said that Azerbaijani gymnasts became the winners of World and European championships last years. Aliya Garayeva ranked first at the European Championship for the first time in the history of the national gymnastics, " Altay Hasanov said.
He said that new generation of very talented gymnasts are grown up in Azerbaijan. "An Azerbaijani gymnast won a silver medal among 14-year-old gymnasts. This gives us grounds to say that the gymnastics school began to demonstrate itself in Azerbaijan," he said.
The Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation appreciates the activity of head coach on rhythmic gymnastics Mariana Vassileva and head coach on acrobatics Irada Gurbanova, Hasanov said.
He said that gymnastics has successfully been developed in the regions, Sumgait, Ganja, Khirdalan, Shabran, Balakan, Goychay for the last years.
The President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Mehriban Aliyeva's support and care for this kind of sports contribute to the development of the sport in Azerbaijan and the highest achievements in international tournaments, Altay Hasanov said.
"The Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation will continue its purposeful activity in developing the national gymnastics in the future. The level of sportsmen, coaches and referees will be increased in the country. The international relations will be further strengthened," Hasanov said.
Azerbaijan's First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP Mehriban Aliyeva was re-elected the President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation. The decision was made at the report-election conference of the Federation on Saturday.
Altay Hasanov was re-elected the vice-president by voting, Rauf Aliyev, Rafiq Behbudov and Arif Gafarov the members of the executive committee during the conference.
A decision was made to adopt a new charter of the Federation, according to which the final conferences and the elections of the administrative board will be held every five years (previously every four years).
