Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The development program of the Azerbaijani State Railways in 2007 - 2011 will be adopted after the solution of corporative reforming of the railways. Presently, discussions are taking place with the ministries and departments regarding railway tariffs, Musa Panahov, the Deputy Transport Minister of Azerbaijan, said on 25 September.
"This is a huge program. It stipulates the reconstruction of infrastructure and first of all the " Silk Way". The program also includes the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway," Panahov said. It is necessary to increase cargo transportation and the safety of deliveries.
The project is estimated at $1.2 bln. Delay of the adopted program is connected with the volume of assumed works. This could concern the issues of reconstruction of being infrastructure. The program envisages only the reconstruction and does not provide main repairs.
The program envisages reconstructing trains and train depots, improving the energy economy, reconstructing the railway economy and re-establishing other infrastructures.
In addition, it is expected to realize the project of launching a speed passenger train via the route from Baku-Boyuk-Kesik to Georgian border, 502 km in length.
