Azerbaijani Central Bank’s currency reserves rise by 14% a year

Currency reserves of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan reduced by $55.2 million, or 1.1 percent in April, to $4.906.6 million, the bank announced.

As of April 1, the bank's currency reserves made up $4.961.8 million.

The Central Bank's currency reserves reduced by 20.05 percent as compared to the beginning of 2009. As of Jan. 1, the Central Bank's reserves hit $6.137 million.

The Central Bank's currency reserves rose by 13.9 percent as compared to last 2008 from $4.306.6 million.

As of Feb. 1, the Central Bank's currency reserves made up $5.975.9 and as of March 1 - $5.636 million.

As a result of the first quarter of 2009, strategic currency reserves of Azerbaijan totaled $16 billion with the consideration of SOFAR funds and government's reserves) as compared to $18.2 as of Jan. 1.

Over the first three months of this year, nearly $1 billion was directed at intervention in the currency market, the Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Elman Rustamov said.
