A U.N. Turkmen development assistance program covering 2010-2015 was signed in Ashgabat this week, local media reported.

The agreement was signed between the Turkmen government and the UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF.

"The program aims to achieve common global goals and Turkmenistan's sustainable development," U.N. Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Lenni Montiel said at the signing ceremony.

UNDAF is a system program, including cooperation priorities in economic and social policy, health and environmental protection.

Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the U.N. The U.N. Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia operates in Ashgabat. A proposal on opening an UNEP regional center for Central Asia and the Caspian basin and a Food and Agriculture Organization regional office is being examined.
