It is necessary to develop master plans of about 50 cities in Azerbaijan, Chairman of State Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning Abbas Aleskerov said in an interview with the ruling New Azerbaijan party's website on Monday.
"Now the Committee is working over master plans of Ganja, Sumgayit, Khirdalan and Sheki," he said.
He said work on master plans of 21 district centers has been completed on the order of the State Committee.
The Committee is preparing regional development plans of the country's five economic regions, the Committee Deputy Chairman Dovletkhan Dovletkhanov told Trend earlier.
"These are development plans of Ganja-Gazakh, Guba-Khachmaz, Sheki-Zagatala, Lankaran and Aran economic regions. We plan to complete preparatory work on them in 2012. It is difficult to predict issues of coordination, but in general in 2013 all of the plans will be accepted. In 2012 we will continue to work in this sphere, as well as we will begin tender process to work on new regions. The regional development plans will be strategic plans of the regions' development for the next 20 years," Dovletkhanov said.
He also said work will be launched on the master plans of the regional centers, such as Balakan, Neftchala, Siyazyan and other. Master plans of Sumgayit, Ganja and Lankaran are under development at present.
"Some 3 million manat was allocated to the State Committee to conduct the work in 2012. We are now working to develop cost estimates for these funds and will submit it to the government," Dovletkhanov said.
