Astana, Kazakhstan, March 13
By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:
It is important for Kazakhstan to conduct subsurface exploration not only for oil and gas, but also for other reserves such as metals used in high technologies, the Committee of Geology and Subsoil Use under the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies told Trend on March 12.
"The exploration operations are traditionally focused on the famous list of base metals in Kazakhstan, namely non-ferrous metals and gold," the committee reported. "Intensive work is carried out in the oil and gas sector, given their priorities and market conditions.
Nevertheless, it is important to conduct exploration for other reserves, especially those having good market conditions."
"The matter rests in the metals, currently used in high technologies, namely rare metals used in various alloys and scattered metals such as high-tech products and space technology," the committee said.
Kazakhstan has a vast territory and large mineral reserves.
"As for the places with non-explored reserves, the study is very high," the committee said. "However, in terms of quality, geological work must be continued as the results of previous exploration become obsolete and new exploration technologies and methodologies appear."
"At present, new fields are discovered at the previously explored areas in Kazakhstan," the committee said.
"It is known that the Kazakh territory has not been fully examined," the committee said. "It is necessary to increase the depth of research. Nevertheless, it is necessary to continue the operations on the basis of new methodological approaches and advanced technologies as there is still much to explore in the bowels of Kazakhstan despite theirexamination."
