Ali Mustafayev - Trend:

Kazakhstan’s Vice-Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev announced Sept. 22 that the Kazakh government started measures to enhance the renewable energy sector.

He stated that the share of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan’s energy generation is currently about 1 percent.

“This is a quite good indicator, especially considering that our country is rich in hydrocarbons and coal reserves,” said Mirzagaliyev, the press service of the Energy Ministry reported.

“In order to go further, we aim to attract the best and the cheapest technologies. Significant steps have been taken to improve the investment climate in the renewables sector over the past year.”

Kazakhstan has agreements on wind power projects with Eni and General Electric. It also has agreements on construction of a 50 MW solar power plant in Jambyl Region, on financing of a 50 MW solar power plant project in Kyzylorda Region, and on a 100 MW wind farm project in Akmola Region.

Kazakhstan has also concluded agreements on cooperation with the Saudi company ACWA Power and the UAE company Masdar.
