BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 7. An incident involving the use of firearms occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, Trend reports.

According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, the incident occurred around 12:20 local time near the settlement of Ak-Bosogo in the Leylek district of the Batken region.

It was reported that Kyrgyz border guards spotted Tajik citizens—shepherds grazing livestock on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, approximately 250-300 meters from the state borderline. The demands of the Kyrgyz guards for the Tajik citizens to leave the territory of Kyrgyzstan were ignored. Furthermore, the Tajik citizens began throwing stones at the Kyrgyz border guards.

One of the shepherds fired 2-3 shots towards the Kyrgyz border guard post. In order to prevent further escalation, the Kyrgyz border guards fired warning shots into the air, after which the shepherds fled into Tajikistan.

There were no casualties among the Kyrgyz border guards. One of the Tajik citizens sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

A meeting of border representatives from both sides is expected. Currently, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the border is described as stable.
