BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has purchased more than 575,000 tons of wheat worth over 67 trillion rials (about $1.6 billion) from farmers under a guarantee in the Kurdistan Province (northern Iran), since the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season (started on March 24, 2022), in the country, Director General of the GTC’s branch in Kurdistan Province Jamal Salehi said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
According to Salehi, so far, 43 percent of the money for purchased wheat has been paid to farmers. The rest is estimated to be paid in the coming days.
“A total of 83 centers are engaged in guaranteed wheat purchasing in the province. On average, more than 4,000 tons of wheat are delivered to the mentioned centers per day,” he added.
The director general noted that the most amount of wheat was purchased in Bijar, Dehgolan, Saqqez and Ghorveh counties of the province.
In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.
The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
