Accident on Volga-Don Canal Not Affected Azerbaijan`s Caspian Shipping Company's Work

An accident as a result of which canal lock 10 on the Volga-Don River Canal were put out of operation has not affected the pass of the vessels of Azerbaijan`s Caspian Shipping Company, a source in the Caspian Shipping Company told Trend today.

At present, there are no vessels of the Shipping Company in the canal. Most of them has completed their pass to the Black Sea and back, the source in the Caspian Shipping Company told. On September 20, 2006, during its locking through in canal lock 10 of the Volga Don Canal, the tanker Saint Petersburg (the owner of the vessel is Navigator LLC, the length of the vessel -141 meters, the width - 16.9 meters, the draught - 3 meters), which followed the passage Caucasus-Saratov, an accident took place. As a result of this accident, the canal lock was put out of operation.

Then the vessel was thrown away again, and brought its whole weight on the reinforced concrete extinguisher of the upper part of the lock. As a result of all that, the skew back facilities and mechanisms of the lock were seriously damaged. The tanker also seriously damaged.

The approximate time to repair the lock is three days.
