Consultation of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Project Held in Tbilisi

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Aliyev / Representatives of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry and State Railway have held discussions of the project to rehabilitate the Marabda-Akhalkalaki railway.

This railway is part of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project. The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has reported that Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway limited company announced a tender in Georgia for the development of the project on the rehabilitation/reconstruction of the Marabda-Akhalkalaki part of the railway.

The Azerbaijani Government will allocate $200mln to the Georgian Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway for a term of 25 years under 1% per year.

The International Bank of Azerbaijan will allocate the first part of the credit to the operator of the project for the construction of the Georgian part of the Railway. The volume of the credit is $50mln.

Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey signed the final document to construct the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in February. The total cost of the project is about $425mln. 5mln tons of cargo is planned to be transported via this railway in the first stage.
