The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to produce 8.55 million tons of oil at fields developed using its own funds, compared to 8.66 million tons in 2008. The company will produce 8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2009.
The company will drill 200,000 meters and operate 83 new wells. A total of 133,000 tons of oil and 3.4 billion cubic meters of gas will be produced from the wells.
SOCAR plans to carry out 13,000 meters worth of exploration drilling. The drilling will begin at 6 and end at two wells. A total of 1,260 wells will be repaired and 108 wells will be written off as invalid.
A gas lift compressor station will also be built at the Guneshli field in 2009.
Five platforms must be repaired to begin drilling the wells.
The collection and transportation systems at Oil Rocks, Guneshli, Bahar, Gumm Deniz, Bibi Eibat, Balakhani and Kalmaz fields must also be reconstructed.
The company plans to extend the area of the Gum Deniz field, Banka Darvina, Bulla Deniz and March 8th.
There are 57 oil-and-gas fields in Azerbaijan. Eighteen are onshore.
Currently, 63,000 people work at SOCAR.
