Iran has launched drilling of its first exploration well in the Caspian Sea, Iran's North Drilling Company Head Hidayatullah Hadimi was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency. The well will be drilled through the Amir Kabir platform, former Iran-Alborz.
Based on the program prepared by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), first will be drilled three exploratory wells in the Caspian Sea, he said.
"Volume of hydrocarbon reserves in the Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea will be specified based on the results of drilling of exploratory wells," he added.
