Iran intends to increase petrol production by 10 percent by late 2010

Petrol production will increase by 10 percent at Iranian refineries for six months, Chairman of the Iranian Organization for freight and fuel Mohammed Rubanian said.

Rubanian said that about 57 million liters of petrol are produced per day. This figure will increase by 10 percent over the next six months.

"Over the past 30 years the world energy consumption increased from 130 million barrels to 250 million barrels. During this period, the world's energy consumption has doubled, while in Iran - five times," Rubanian said.

He said that in 2006, gasoline consumption in Iran was 75 million liters per day. This figure now hits 63 million liters through execution of the project to allocate quotas for gasoline and work.

The number of cars in the country increased by four million, motorcycles - by two million, but gasoline consumption reduced by more than 13 percent from 2006-up to now.
