SOCAR decreases gas supplies to Russia

According to Feb. 7 data, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) exports 4.1 million cubic meters of gas per day to Russia compared to 6.5 million cubic meters as of Jan. 8, a source in SOCAR told Trend today.

Azerbaijani gas supplies to Russia started on Jan.1, 2010.

"Gas supplies to Russia continue normally, but presently, they slightly decreased and hit 4.1 million cubic meters per day," the source said.

The contract, with a possibility of extension for the purchase and sale of Azerbaijani gas was signed between SOCAR and Gazprom in Baku on Oct.14, 2009.

According to the supplement of the contract which was signed in early September 2010 in Baku in 2011, 'Gazprom' was to receive two billion cubic meters of gas and in 2012 over two billion cubic meters. However, Russia did not get the full amount of this volume. The additional agreement to double the volume of gas purchased by Russia from 1.5 to 3 billion cubic meters was signed by the parties in Sochi on Jan.24, 2012.
