Since late 2009, China has purchased 184 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas and has become the biggest gas importer, Li Shuliang, general manager of Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) International Turkmenistan, said.
Shuliang made the remarks at the 22nd International Conference ‘Oil & Gas Turkmenistan - OGT 2017’ in Ashgabat Nov. 2.
The Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline with a length of 1,800 kilometers is the biggest transboundary gas pipeline in the world.
The gas pipeline stretches through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The fourth branch of the gas pipeline is planned to be constructed through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The total trade turnover between the two countries has greatly increased over more than 25 years of diplomatic relations. The trade turnover reached $4.5 million in 1992 while it exceeded $10 billion in 2013. China is the biggest trading partner of Turkmenistan.
