By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Fuel prices are driven by growth in Georgia, Trend reports via Georgian media.
Last month, the price of gasoline in Georgia increased by 19 tetri (5.52 cents), and the price of diesel fuel - by 8 tetri (2.32 cents).
"Fuel prices have been growing since last year. From the beginning of June, international prices for Platts began to rise and fuel prices began to rise. But since this year, the rise in prices has become more tangible for consumers. Because the prices today are practically the same as before the coronavirus pandemic. This year, fuel in Georgia has risen in price at branded gas stations by 35-40 tetri (10-11 cents)," Chairman of the Georgian Union of Oil Products' Importers Vano Mtvralashvili said earlier.
According to him, the price of fuel in Georgia is not set in accordance with market demand and supply - the cost of fuel in a country dependent on imports is determined by international oil prices in accordance with S&P Global Platts.
Mtvralashvili noted that the only local factor affecting the price of fuel is the exchange rate of the lari, because the goods are bought and transported for the US dollars.
