BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. Commissioning work is underway at the polypropylene production plant, within the Integrated Gas Chemical Complex in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau, Trend reports via the press service of the complex.

“As part of the ongoing work, a propylene compressor with a steam turbine is being launched. During the first start-up of the compressor and the transition between stages (five stages in total), the propane is periodically (within five-six minutes) discharged to flare of Integrated Gas Chemical Complex,” the press service said.

According to the press service, the discharge is done in line with the launch procedure from the manufacturer and the recommendations of the US Lummus Technology company, being the technological process licensor, to regulate the pressure in the compression stages of the compressor and to avoid an emergency situation.

“On August 27-28, 2022, the controlled discharges were carried out according to the launch procedure. Purified propane from the Tengiz field with a concentration of up to 98.5 percent is used as the raw material at the polypropylene plant," the press service noted. "The composition of the propane used doesn’t contain sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. When propane is burned, only carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor are released into the air.”

“Currently, the launch process is controlled by personnel, chief engineers of the German MAN company and representatives of the licensor,” added the press service.
