The Georgian electricity system is fully prepared to set up the export of electricity to Azerbaijan and Turkey. At present Georgia is waiting for approval from its Azerbaijani and Georgian counterparts regarding technical preparedness for energy admission. Export can begin at any time, Trend has been informed at the State Energy System of Georgia Company, managed by the Irish ESBI.
Georgia intends to export a total of 3mln KW/h electricity to Azerbaijan and Turkey 1.5mln KW/h to Azerbaijan and 1.5mln KW/h to Turkey. Energy export from Georgia will be implemented within the framework of an agreement on energy deliveries through the barter scheme, which was agreed between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
At present Georgia has an excess of energy which presents an opportunity for its export. An exchange of electricity with these countries can be carried out both seasonally and daily.
