BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 13. A total amount of money allocated to preparation, and construction and installation work of Kambarata hydroelectric power plant-1 (HPP) from Kyrgyzstan’s budget has already amounted to 1.8 billion soms ($20 million), Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Head of the President’s Administration Akylbek Japarov told in an interview with a local TV channel, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

“As of today, the budget of our country has increased from $3 billion of the consolidated budget to $6 billion, and we can aim at large projects, including the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1,” the minister said.

Japarov noted that, if Kambarata -1 HPP starts operating, Kyrgyzstan would be able to resume exports of electricity.

The minister pointed out that Kyrgyzstan has plans to development of green energy, namely hydroelectric power, and the country has already provided the potential investors with data on hydro resources.

According to Japarov, Kyrgyzstan could begin the exports of green energy within the timeframe of five to ten years.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1 in the Kyrgyz Jalal-Abad region, with a planned capacity of 1,800 MW, on January 6, 2023. The HPP is expected to improve the energy security of these three countries.

On March this year, Kyrgyzstan and the French state-owned company, Électricité de France (EDF) discussed possible ways for cooperation and attracting new investments, both from the French company and from other potential investors and international financial institutions, to the construction of the HPP.

Kyrgyzstan and the EDF also agreed on further discussion of the financial aspects of the project implementation and terms of cooperation, as well as to conduct additional consultations in the Kyrgyz capital.
