The volume of exported carpets from Uzbekistan from January through September in value terms amounted to $18.1 million, which is 16 percent less than in the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan
In total, six million square meters of carpet products were sent to foreign countries over the past nine months. Of these, 26 percent were delivered to Azerbaijan, 25 percent to Kyrgyzstan, 16 percent to Kazakhstan.
Buyers from Afghanistan and the Russian Federation accounted for 13 percent each. The rest was exported to other countries.
The supply of carpets to the US has doubled for 9M2020. The first trading house selling Uzbek carpet products was opened in the US last year.
The largest manufacturers of carpet products in Uzbekistan are Khorazm Gilamlari JSC in the Khorezm region and the Samarkand carpet factory.
Earlier it was reported that the export of textile products from Uzbekistan, which included more than 455 varieties of goods for 9M2020 amounted to 10.8 percent of the total export volume and was carried out to 60 countries of the world.
The largest share of textile products exported from Uzbekistan falls on Russia ($486.5 million - 36.3 percent), China ($277.5 million - 20.7 percent), and Kyrgyzstan ($196.5 million - 14.6 percent).
According to the June decree of the President of Uzbekistan, a number of benefits were provided to carpet manufacturers. From 2021, once every two years in October, Tashkent will host the International Festival of Hand-made Oriental Carpets.
