BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 10. The carpet export value of Uzbekistan has reached $9.3 million from January through February 2023, increasing by $5.1 million, compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports via Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

The committee says that the main importers of Uzbek carpets in the reporting period were Kyrgyzstan ($6.2 million), Tajikistan ($935,000), Azerbaijan ($796,000), Russia ($676,000), Afghanistan ($299,000), and Kazakhstan ($268,000).

The country earns about $40 million a year, by exporting its carpet products only to the neighboring countries, but also to Europe.

The main carpet-producing centers of Uzbekistan are Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand.

Taking into consideration the positive impact of carpet production on the country's export indicators, in January 2023, the leadership of Uzbekistan announced that about $300 million will be allocated for the textile industry in 2023, a certain amount of which falls on carpet production.

In 2022, the value of Uzbekistan’s carpet exports amounted to $43.9 million — an increase of $1.8 million, compared to the figure for 2021 ($42.1 million).

Meanwhile, from January through February 2023 Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.9 billion, increasing by 2 percent or $176.4 million, compared to the same period last year ($8.7 billion).
