Both Turkey and Syria need to show discretion, and notice the enemy's evil plans, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, Fars reported.

"After the incident on the border between Turkey and Syria, both sides need to be able to make self-determination, not to allow enemies to reach their regional goals," Abdollahian said.

Abdollahian also said that there are extremist and terrorist groups in the region, adding that Turkey and Syria need to hold themselves and help to strengthen peace in the region.

Several servicemen belonging to the Syrian army were killed as a result of Turkey's shelling into Syria in response to yesterday's shelling of the city of Sanliurfa by the Syrian army, the agency Cihan said today.

The Turkish side also opened fire on the Syrian police station near Tel Abyad.
The Turkish Parliament will today discuss issuing a mandate for cross-border military operations against Syria, Turkish media reported earlier.

At least five people were killed in Sanl?urfa province on Wednesday, when a mortar exploded in the town centre. According to Turkish electron media outlets, the Syrian government army fired at the city.

In response to the shelling Turkey bombed the site in Syria where the fire opened.

NATO and the UN demanded that Syria to immediately ceased all acts of aggression against Turkey. The Syrian authorities expressed their condolences to the families of the dead and began investigating the incident.

In mid-September, a few houses in Turkey suffered from Syrian shells. Three people were injured as a result.
