Iran inaugurates a new combined cycle power plant

Iran's new combined cycle power plant was inaugurated during a ceremony with taking part of Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Ardakan, Fars Province.

The Ardakan power plant's output capacity is 468 megawatt, composed of two 166- megawatt gas units, and a 160-megawatt steam unit.

As of now, only the gas units were commissioned and the steam unit is projected to be inaugurated next year, IRNA reported on Nov.27.

Iran's electricity production has hit 198,447 GWh since the beginning of the current Iranian year (began on March 21).

The figure rose by 6.43 percent compared to the same period in the past year, Iran's Energy Ministry website reported on November 26.

Thermal and hydroelectric power plants generated 187,443 GWh and 11,004 GWh, respectively, showing 6.7 percent and 2.01 percent rise year on year.

According to Energy Ministry's latest report, Iran's electricity generation was about 70,000 megawatt (or 263,000 GWh) during last Iran's fiscal year.
Some 128 combined cycle power plants with 14,856 MW power capacity were in Iran until March 2014.
