Iranian government has submitted a bill to the parliament, proposing a 10 percent increase in water and electricity prices, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said.
He added that the cost of one kilowatt-hour electricity is 1,200 rials, but the government sells it at 660 rials in average to customers, Chitchian said live on a state IRIB TV program.
Currently the official rate of USD in Iran is 32,750 rials.
Chitchian said the government has 300 trillion rials ($9.16 billion) worth of debts to the Energy Ministry due to compensation of low water and electricity price.
The power price in Iran depends on the amount of consumption by clients.
Chitchian said Jan. 28 that Iran’s the power export price stands at 10 cents per kWh. The figure is 5.7 times more that electricity sale to domestic clients.
According to the official statistics of Energy Ministry, Iranians consumed 241 TWh of electricity during the last fiscal year (ended on March 20), of which the share of housing, agriculture and industrial sectors was 33.2 percent, 15.8 percent and 31.9 percent respectively.
Iran exported 6.5 TWh and imported 4.336 TWh during last fiscal year.
