Population’s income

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 27.72 billion manat in January-July 2017, which is by 7.5 percent more compared to January-July 2016.

Thus, during the reporting period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 6.4 percent and reached 2,853.4 manat.

The population’s income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 25.37 billion manat in January-July 2017, which is by 7.5 percent more than in January-July 2016.

Some 85.9 percent of the population's income was spent on consumer spending, 8.4 percent - taxes, social insurance and voluntary membership fees, 1.9 percent - interest on a loan and 3.8 percent - on fees.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-June 2017 increased by 6.9 percent from year to year and reached 522.0 manat.

Remuneration in the oil sector reached 3,072.4 manat for the month, the non-oil sector – 462.2 manat, the public sector –390.5 manat, the private sector – 709.1 manat as of July 1, 2017.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communication, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

The construction sector plays an important role in the labor market. According to the official statistics, the salary of those working in the construction sector amounted to 807.8 manat in January-July 2017.

Labor market

As of August 1, 2017, some 36,600 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 37.2 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report said.

According to the report, the number of unemployed increased by 4.5 percent in the country in January-July 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.

The average monthly unemployment benefit is 250.7 manat in Azerbaijan in January-July 2017.

As of early August 2017, the economically active population reached 5.05 million people.

As of July 1, 2017, the number of hired employees reached almost 1.53 million people, including 881,100 people worked in the state sector, and 646,600 people - in private sector.

Some 34,200 people work in the oil sector, while over 1.49 million people in the non-oil sector.

Around 23.2 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 7.3 percent in construction, 6.7 percent in processing industry, 3.2 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.2 percent - in the mining industry, 2.1 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 21.7 percent in education, 18.9 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.6 percent - medical and social services, 7.1 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.7 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.6 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.5 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.3 percent - real estate transactions, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering and 1.1 percent - other areas.

Azerbaijan pays special attention to the social sphere. Well-thought-out economic reforms are complemented by a strong social policy.

Some 613,700 jobs, including 470,400 permanent ones, were created as part of the third stage of the State Program for Social and Economic Development of the Regions covering the period from January 1, 2014 till July 1, 2017.

Some 174,000 new jobs were created in the country in January-June 2017, including 119,300 permanent ones. During the reporting period, 65.1 percent of jobs were created in the non-state sector.

Some 22.0 percent of new jobs account for Baku, 0.8 percent - the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 77.2 percent - the regions, including 34.5 percent - Aran, 10.8 percent - Lankaran, 9.8 percent - Ganja-Gazakh, 5.9 percent - Upper Karabakh, 5.1 percent - Absheron, 4.0 percent - Sheki-Zagatala, 3.6 percent - Upper-Shirvan, 3.2 percent - Guba-Khachmaz, 0.3 percent - Kalbajar-Lachin economic regions.

Some 8.2 percent of permanent jobs were created at newly established enterprises and organizations, 14.4 percent - at operating enterprises and organizations, 1.1 percent - at enterprises and organizations which resumed their activity and 76.3 percent - by private entrepreneurs.
