The Confederation of African Football has announced that former African Foot player of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke is among important football personalities that will grace the unveiling ceremony of the top three nominees for the 2008 Glo- CAF Awards, Xinhua reported.
The continent football body will reveal the top three nominees for all categories of the awards and Amuneke, who won the awards in 1994, will be on hand to announce some of the nominees for the African Football player of the Year category.
A host of other football dignitaries expected at the event include a former national team goalkeeper, Joe Erico; Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Waidi Akanni, and the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Council, Yomi Dada.
The ceremony sponsored by Globacom Limited will hold on February 10 at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to Suleiman Habuba, CAF Communications Director, he said the body had received the shortlist of nominees from the technical and media committees of CAF. He said in line with the tradition, the coaches of the national associations have also voted and we will at a press conference in Lagos make public the top three as selected by the coaches.
The final selection of the Glo-CAF Player of the Year is decided by coaches of member federations of CAF who vote for a candidate of their choice from the shortlist.
Amuneke, who recently signed a coaching contract with pro-league side, Julius Berger of Lagos, said he accepted to attend the ceremony as a mark of appreciation to CAF for honoring him with an award in the past and also to show solidarity with Globacom for its massive investment in football.
