Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday told state senators who will soon convene his impeachment trial that he hopes they are able to put the business of Illinoisans first as they deal with "other issues."
"These are challenging times, hard economic times facing the people of Illinois. I hope we can find a way as we deal with other issues to find the truth and sort things out," he said in the state Senate's Wednesday swearing-in ceremony, shortly before handing over proceedings to the body's newly elected president, Sen. John Cullerton.
"Let us come together and get the business of the people done," he said.
Blagojevich appeared in a dark suit with a blue tie for the ceremony in Springfield, which came less than a week after the House voted 114-1 to impeach him, CNN reported.
