Iceland Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir asked the country's three central bank governors to resign and will present a new banking bill tomorrow, Bloomberg reported.

Sigurdardottir asked for the resignations of David Oddsson, Eirikur Gudnason and Ingimundur Fridriksson, the state bank's three governors, in a letter, Sigurdardottir told Iceland's broadcaster RUV late today. The new bill will require only one governor, Sigurdardottir also said in the RUV interview.

"We need to rebuild trust between us and the international community," Sigurdardottir told RUV. "Our financial system has suffered a loss and the nation wants to see changes in the central bank," Sigurdardottir said.

Iceland's new coalition of Social Democrats and Left Greens said yesterday it wants to "renew trust" in its financial system.
