Ukraine's Supreme Court on Friday struck down constitutional reforms put into place after the country's 2004 pro-democracy Orange Revolution.

The decision returns to Ukraine's executive branch, and thus current President Viktor Yanukovych, control over all cabinet appointments. Previously, most posts had to be approved by Parliament and the prime minister, DPA reported.

Yanukovych critics had warned such a decision would mark a dramatic step back towards authoritarianism in the former Soviet republic.
