A suicide bomber, who blew himself up near the U.S. embassy in Ankara today, was a Turkish citizen. Perhaps, he belonged to a leftist group, Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler was quoted today by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the minister said that a Turkish guard of the U.S. Embassy was killed in the explosion. A thirty-nine year old woman was seriously injured, but her life is out of danger. Medical aid was rendered to two guards. It was not reported about injured U.S. citizens.
"We have the information that the suicide bomber is a thirty year old, previously convicted Turkish citizen," he added. "But I will not give any statement on this issue until we obtain the results of expertise. Perhaps, he was a member of an illegal "left" organization."
Earlier, Turkish television reported that the suicide bomber may have belonged to the Turkish Marxist group "Turkish People's Liberation Party".
