Azerbaijan Railways CJSC expects to receive all 20 passenger cars, previously sent for overhaul to Ukraine, by summer of 2015, the head of the press service of CJSC Nadir Azmammadov told Trend.

He said that previously, CJSC had already received about 80 passenger carriages, which were renovated in Russia and Ukraine.

"Another batch of cars is already in Dnepropetrovsk for the overhaul, and we plan to get it by summer," said Azmammadov. "After that, the cars will be used to provide high quality services to passengers."

Due to the lack of the necessary infrastructure in Azerbaijan for the overhaul of cars, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC currently sends them abroad, particularly to Russia and Ukraine.

On October 2014 the city of Ganja held a ceremony of laying the foundation of a new Stadler car construction plant, which will be commissioned in 2016. It is planned to produce about 50 cars a year at the plant an the initial stage. Along with providing domestic demand of the country, one of the main purposes of building the car construction plant is the export of passenger cars in the countries of Central Asia, Iran and others.

The project of creation of a new enterprise is very important, as it will allow to ensure the cars overhaul in the country, along with their production.

The deputy head of CJSC Gurban Nazirov previously said that Azerbaijan Railways plans to buy 100 new passenger cars within the renovation of car fleet. It is also planned to acquire 50 locomotives for freight traffic and 12 locomotives for passenger traffic.
