Development of trade and economic relations with Iran is of great importance for strengthening mutually beneficial multilateral partnership, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said as he addressed a special exhibition of Iran in Ashgabat.
As Turkmenistan is increasing economic potential, it attaches special importance to modernization and diversification of the economy, and introduction of the latest technologies, he said.
“Foreign partners, Iranian entrepreneurs as well, who seek entering the Turkmen market, are particularly interested in this,” according to the Turkmen president.
“The exhibition and the Turkmenistan-Iran business forum, which is being organized as part of it, are intended to ensure further deepening of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Berdimuhamedov added.
Turkmenistan and Iran have implemented a number of large joint projects. One of the most important projects is the Korpeje-Kordkuy gas pipeline commissioned in 1996.
The two countries built the Dostluk (Friendship) border dam and implemented the North-South railway project based on a tripartite agreement signed in 2007 by Turkmenistan, Iran and Kazakhstan.
