The incidents over the Khankendi airport have exposed serious controversies inside Armenian society, Center for Political Innovations and Technologies Director Mubariz Ahmedoglu said during a press conference on Wednesday.
In his words, if the Armenian mass media reported that Khankendi airport under the leadership of the head of so-called "Civil Aviation Administration of Nagorno Karabakh" Dmitry Atbashyan is ready for use, without consent of the country's political leadership, this proves existence of not only controversies but also animosity between Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh and Armenians from Armenia.
"In case if the statements were consented with the Armenian government, this demonstrates the political illiteracy of the government. The head of General Administration of Civil Aviation of Nagorno Karabakh Artem Movsiyan stated that the airline, established for flights in Yerevan-Khankendi direction, doesn't have permit for flights," Ahmedoglu added.
In his words, need for a new flight direction for the major Armenian Armavia airline is not out of economic considerations.
"Such short distance flights are more expensive. Also, the economic situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is not conducive to this. Given that the issues of control and permit to Yerevan airport under the control of Russia, in contrast to passenger car transportation, organized flights may soon lead to a depopulation of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenian government realized its mistake and was quick to take a step back," Ahmedoglu said.
