The Iranian Oil Ministry downplayed the importance of the recent threat by the European Union to ban imports of Iran's natural gas supplies, reminding that Iran has no gas export to the EU members at all, FNA reported.
On Thursday, the European Union diplomats announced that the block is poised to ban imports of Iranian gas into Europe as part of its efforts to ratchet up pressure on the Islamic Republic.
Diplomats from the EU member states have started preparing a package of sanctions against Iran with a goal of formally adopting them at a meeting of foreign ministers on October 15 in Luxembourg.
In reply, Spokesman of Iran's Oil Ministry Alireza Nikzad Rahbar said that the EU threat is nothing but a propaganda campaign.
"Right now no EU member imports Iranian gas supply," he said, and added, "The new EU threat is just a propaganda maneuvering and will never take place since they (the EU members) can never make themselves politically dependent on the other countries."
Iran is now exporting gas to Turkey and has swap deals with Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Iran, which sits on the world's second largest reserves of gas, is facing western sanctions over its nuclear program.
