Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 September / Trend corr. J.Babayeva /Azerbaijani intellectuals consider not serious the initiative to establish a new opposition cooperation format. "The proposal by the Azadlig bloc regarding the unity is not serious due to sterility of the decision to boycott the elections," Eldaniz Guliyev, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Union of Intelligentsia, told Trend .
Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Most opposition parties will boycott the presidential elections. The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, which is united in the Azadlig bloc, alongside with Popular Front, Liberal, Classical, Civil and Development, Open Society, Musavat and public forum For the Name of Azerbaijan have commenced talks to establish the opposition cooperation centre.
According to Guliyev, the relevant issue is the goal of establishment of the centre. "Azerbaijani opposition's everlasting shortcoming is opposition fails to consolidate. If opposition reaches unity, it collapses soon or late. I hope this union will last for a long time," Guliyev said.
Azerbaijani Movement of Intelligentsia was established in 2003. In 2007, the origination held the state registration in the Justice Ministry under the name of Azerbaijani Union of Intelligentsia. Union's goal is to protect the rights of intelligentsia, as well as to reconcile the authorities with opposition.
