The EU supports talks to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an Egyptian-brokered agreement currently underway, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign Security Policy Javier Solana wrote Trend via email.
The Egyptian initiative envisages ceasing the Israeli offensive in Gaza and Hamas' shelling Israeli towns.
The proposals look to ensure security on the Israeli-Gaza borders and restore unity of Palestinian groups.
"We call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and full access to humanitarian relief for victims," Solana said.
The Israeli military offensive began on Dec. 27 and has claimed the lives of 910 Palestinians, BBC reported Palestinian doctors as saying. The Israeli military said 13 soldiers have been killed.
The Israeli Air Force struck Gaza on Dec. 27. After a 6-month truce between Hamas and Israel expired on Dec. 19, Hamas shelled Sderot and Ashkelon in response to the murder of four Palestinians.
