Iran to share experience with Afghanistan in combating drugs

The Minister for Counternarcotics of Afghanistan, General Khodadad met with the Chairman of Anti-Drug Department of Iran Muhammadrza Hussein Abadi and with representative of the Iranian President in the Department Taha Tahiri.  

The meeting focused on cooperation between the two countries in combating drugs, Zulmai Afzali, a representative of the Ministry for Counternarcotics of Afghanistan, told Trend in a telephone conversation from Afghanistan.

Afzali said that Iran has extensive experience in combating drugs. "We offered Iran to share experience in combating drugs with Afghan police, he said, and during the meeting an agreement was reached." Also, an agreement was reached on exchange of information on drugs, Afzali said.

"Iran and Afghanistan share a common border, so we want to get support from Iran," said Afzali.

During the current visit, discussions will be held on cooperation within the agreement concluded on Nov. 21, 2008 at a meeting on combating drugs

During the three days visit, the Iranian delegation will attend the second meeting of the trilateral talks on the fight against drugs between the United Nations, Afghanistan and Iran. In addition, the Iranian delegation will meet with the Minister of Health of Afghanistan, and the Prosecutor.

The first meeting of the trilateral negotiations concerning the fight against drugs between the United Nations, Afghanistan and Iran was held Nov. 21, 2008 in Kabul.
