The National Assembly of Azerbaijanis of Georgia (NAAG) intends to hold a protest action in front of the Parliament of the country on May 20.

The purpose of the action is to draw the attention of the government of Georgia and world public to the problems of Azerbaijanis residing in the country, NAAG released information on May 15.

"Despite the support by the Azerbaijanis of Georgia for the development of State, the government demonstrated indifference to their problems. Considering that the Azerbaijanis make up the majority of the population after the Georgians, it is unacceptable," the report says.

Participants of the protest action of NAAG will require making public the status of the Azerbaijani language and the creation of a television channel in the native language, which would be broadcasted throughout the territory of Georgia.

The National Assembly of Azerbaijanis of Georgia was founded in 2001. NAAG is an opposition public-political organization. NAAG President Dashgin Gulmammadov was arrested in March this year. He was imprisoned for two years. Detained was charged under article 178 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic.
