A new staff of the Central Election Committee (CEC) has been approved at a meeting of the Azerbaijani parliament today.

According to the voting results, roughly 18 CEC members were approved including: Mazahir Panakhov, Shaitdin Aliyev, Fuad Javadov, Ramiz Ibrahimov, Valida Kazimova and Gabil Orujov (candidates from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Mikail Rahimli (Party of the United Popular Front of Azerbaijan), Almas Gahramanli (Civil Solidarity Party), Akif Gurbanov (Umid Party), Tamam Jafarli (Party of Democratic Reforms), Bahsheish Askerov (Great Establishment Party), Etibar Guliyev (Ana Vatan Party), Natig Mammadov, Azer Tagiev, Arifa Mukhtarova, Ilham Mammadov, Nizami Nadirov and Tofig Hasanov (non-party candidates to the CEC). The candidature of Natig Mammadov has been agreed with the New Azerbaijan Party, a candidate of Arifa Mukhtarova with a parliamentary minority in the Azerbaijani parliament).

In his speech MP Aydin Mirzazade noted that the current method of forming the Azerbaijani CEC justifies itself.

MP Fazil Mustafa said that it would be better if the interests of parties not represented in the parliament be taken into account in the future when forming the CEC.
