The question of detention of young Azerbaijani poets in Iran is at the center of constant attention, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told reporters on Monday.
"The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz, and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, held a number of meetings during the day, also letters to all authorities were sent. Unfortunately, the Iranian side does not provide information about the detention of these individuals, and their arrest," Abdullayev said.
He said work is underway in this direction and information on this will be brought to the highest authorities.
This issue has shown lack of connection between the Iranian government agencies, Abdullayev said.
Today, thousands of Iranian citizens visit Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov said.
"If we consider each of them as an agent, an object of threats to national security, it can no longer be called good-neighborly relations. It is difficult to imagine the feelings parents of two young poets have experienced for the past few weeks," he said.
The official representative of the Presidential Administration said it is important for Azerbaijani journalism to react to such actions.
