Trial Involving Journalist and Azerbaijani Political Party to Go On

Ilhamgyzy / The trial involving the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan (PFPUA), MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev, who commenced a lawsuit against the editor-in-chief of Khural newspaper, Ayvaz Zeynally, will be continued on 30 October, according to Zeynally.

Hasanguliyev demands making Zeynally answerable for insult and slander. The chairman is demanding an apology and a retract of the offensive articles published in Khural.

On 9 October Hasanguliyev's attorney did not appear at the hearing at Narimanov District Court. The judge postponed the trial to 30 October.

According to Zeynally, the sides to the conflicts are expected to reconcile at the hearing. Hasanguliyev and Zeynally's attorneys agreed to reconciliation.

"I also wanted to commence a lawsuit against Hasanguliyev. But I agreed with my attorney to settle the conflicts and I changed my mind," Zeynally said.

The judge considering Hasanguliyev's lawsuit gave time to the sides to thin by 17 October.

The UAPFP has a constructive position towards the authorities.

Khural refers itself as an independent newspaper, not representing political forces.
