Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 January / Trend corr.А.Badalova / The Nord Stream gas pipeline satisfied 25% of additional demands of Europe gas import several years later and would provide security for fuel delivery to the European Union countries, Thomas Geisel, the Vice President of the German E.ON Ruhrgas, which enters the three leading gas companies of Europe, to Trend .

"EU cannot meet gas demand without the 'north stream'," Geisel stated.

Nord Stream is planning to be laid from the depth of the Baltic Sea to Russia and Germany.

There is planning to lay the first part of the pipeline with 1,200 with yearly carrying capacity of 27.5bln in 2010. The gas delivery starts in 2011.

The second part of the pipeline is planning to lay in 2012 with 27.5bln of cu m of capacity. The total capacity of the gas pipeline will total to 55bln of cu m per year.

"The gas will be transported through Nord Stream to Germany and Dania, Netherlands, Belgium, Britain and France," Geisel said.

Geisel stated that the project was open for developing of peripheral pipelines to other European countries.

Russian energy giant Gazprom owns a 51% stake and Germany's BASF and E.ON. hold 24.5% each in the Nord Stream joint venture, the project operator. The Netherlands Gasunie signed an agreement with Gasprom on joining the gas pipeline construction project.

E.ON Ruhrgas AG (to 1 June 2004 Ruhrgas AG) has been a part of the E.ON AG member since February 2003 and is responsible for gas business group of Europe, including production, sale, transport and keep of natural gas. The company possesses the branchy gas transporting network with 11,273km of length. The network includes twelve underground repositories with total volume of active gas 5.1bln cu m. Е.ON Ruhrgas AG is leading in the German market by the volume of natural gas sale.
