Date of Talks on WB Social Project for Azerbaijan Defined

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 March / corr Trend I.Khalilova / Official talks between the World Bank and Azerbaijan Government over the project on social defense with the budget of $40mln will be held on 8 April, the WB Baku Office said.

Originally the talks were scheduled for 17-18 March.

A WB mission led by Alexander Posarak, a social projects manager will visit Baku for talks.

The bank is prepared to allocate $25mln for the implementation of the project on the terms of the International Association for Development (35 years for 10 years under 0.75% rate).

The project includes four components: full upgrade of the labor market system, including the improvement of labor legislation, improvement of the labor legislation, labor protection system, work of employment service; formation of social security system policy; upgrade of pension and project management.

Under the project it is planned to hold full institutional development and upgrade of profession education system, development of professional classifiers on the basis of European experience. It is planned to establish professional education centers at the Ministry.

The 5-year project is expected to get approval at the meeting of WB Board of Directors in May.

Previously, the WB has financed one project in the social sector. Since 2005 the project on Pension reforms And social security is under development and the bank allocated $10mln in this respect.
