State Statistics Committee: Uzbekistan foreign trade balance decreased by 43 percent in 2009

Black ink of Uzbekistan's foreign trade decreased by 42.7 percent in 2009 compared to $ 2.333 billion in 2008, the Republic State Statistics Committee reported.

The country's foreign trade turnover grew by 0.1 percent to $ 21.21 billion in 2009, including the volume of exports, which rose by 2.4 percent to $11.771 billion, while imports fell by 2.7 percent to $ 9.438 billion.

In 2009, foreign trade turnover with non-CIS foreign countries rose by 5.3 percent to $13.203 billion, with the CIS countries decreased by 7.5 percent, to $8.006 billion.

In 2009, Uzbekistan increased exports to foreign countries by 3.7 percent to $ 7.850 billion, imports rose by 7.7 percent, to $ 5.353 billion.

Goods worth $3.921 billion (a decrease of 0.1 percent) were exported to the CIS countries, imports from the CIS countries amounted to $4.085 billion (a decrease by 13.7 percent).

The share of far countries in the foreign trade in the structure of countries amounted to 62.3 percent compared to 59.1 percent 2008, while the share of exports to these countries rose to 66.7 percent from 65.8 percent share of imports from them rose to 56.7 percent from 51.2 percent.

Russia remained the main foreign trade partner of Uzbekistan in 2009 with 21.0 percent of total turnover. Thus in 2009 the volume of trade with Russia increased by 4.9 percent compared to 2008.

Other major partners of the country during this period were China with 9.7 percent (growth in turnover at 35.8 percent), Switzerland with 7.9 percent (growth by 1.5 times), Ukraine with 7.2 percent (a decrease by 21 percent), Kazakhstan with 6.2 percent (a decrease by 21.1 percent), South Korea with 5.8 percent (an increase by 8.2 percent), Afghanistan with 3.3 percent (an increase by 34.6 percent).

Export of energy and petroleum products comprised 34.2 percent (24.7 percent was in 2008), cotton 8.6 percent (9.3 percent), services 8.8 percent (10.4 percent), black and non-ferrous metals 5.0 percent (7.0 percent), machinery and equipment 2.9 percent (7.6 percent), food products 6.0 percent (4.5 percent), miscellaneous goods 29.5 percent (30.9 percent).

In 2009, exports of energy and petroleum products increased by 42.2 percent, food products by 39 percent. Exports of cotton decreased by 5.1 percent, services by 14.1 percent, ferrous and nonferrous metals by 27.7 percent, machinery and equipment 61.6 percent.

Machinery and equipment held the main share of imports, comprising 56.5 percent (52.4 percent in 2008), chemicals and plastics - 11.1 percent (11.6 percent), ferrous and nonferrous metals - 6.3 percent ( 7.7 percent), services - 4.4 percent (4.4 percent), food - 9.0 percent (8.3 percent).

Black ink in Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover in 2008 increased by 8.3 percent to $ 4,069 billion, foreign trade turnover grew by 21.4 percent to $19.077 billion, including export by 28.7 percent to $11.573 billion, import by 11.5 percent to $7.504 billion.
